On the 2023 NEC
The 2023 NEC split old Article 725 into Articles 722, 724 and 725. Study material written for the 2020 or earlier editions sends you to the wrong article; every question here cites the 2023 section.

Frequently asked questions
How is the Wyoming Low-Voltage Alarm Technician exam structured?+
ICC exam 235: 30 questions in 1½ hours, open book, and you need 70%. Six areas carry about five questions each: remote-control and signaling, Class 1 circuits, Class 2 and 3 circuits, general fire alarm, non-power-limited fire alarm circuits and power-limited fire alarm circuits.
Which code edition, and which books can I bring?+
The 2023 NEC. You may also use Ugly's Electrical Reference, Ferm's Fast Finder Index, Tom Henry's Key Word Index and the NEC Handbook. ICC gives the exam at Pearson VUE centers for $115, with a 10-day wait after a failed attempt.
How does NICET certification fit in?+
Wyoming's Department of Fire Prevention and Electrical Safety told us that NICET Fire Alarm certification at Level I or II qualifies you to sit this exam, and that Level III or IV essentially stands in for the other requirements. Without NICET you go through the full experience route. Confirm your own path with the Department before you apply.
Do I need this license just to test fire alarm systems?+
Per the Department, the license is required for installing, wiring, energizing or servicing alarm systems; testing alone does not require it. It is not required for testing, but we highly recommend NICET certification in Inspection and Testing of Fire Alarm Systems for anyone who tests systems.
