About Fire Cert Academy
Fire Cert Academy exists because years ago, Brandon Carlton sat down to study for his first NICET Fire Alarm Systems exam and couldn’t find a single practice resource that felt like the real thing.
NICET exams aren’t a memorization contest. They’re open-book tests where every question is a race against the clock to find the right paragraph in the right codebook. The skill you need isn’t recall — it’s the ability to reverse-engineer a question into a codebook index lookup, fast.
Brandon built Fire Cert Academy to train that skill.

Brandon Carlton
Founder
Brandon has spent his career in the fire protection industry in roles spanning technician, project manager, and sales at major integrators including SimplexGrinnell and Siemens Smart Infrastructure. His hands-on experience covers fire alarm systems, water-based systems, and related life safety work.
That field experience shapes every question in the pool. Each one is written the way a working fire protection pro would actually encounter the problem — not the way a textbook would frame it.
How we’re different
- Codebook-first. Every explanation references the exact standard, edition, and paragraph where the answer lives. We don’t just tell you the answer — we tell you where to look next time.
- Realistic practice tests. Randomized question draws, timers, and real exam conditions. Study mode lets you take untimed practice without affecting your stats.
- Built by a professional. Every question is written by someone who has done the actual work, reviewed for accuracy against the current edition of the applicable codes.
- No guarantees, no hype. Passing a NICET exam takes preparation, field experience, and familiarity with your codebooks. We can’t do any of those for you — we just give you the practice environment to get there.
