Thirty-one percent in one domain

Hydraulic calculations and water supply is the largest single domain anywhere in the ICC fire family, larger than F3's fire protection domain and larger than FK's maintenance domain. That is twenty-three of seventy-five questions.

It means density and area of operation, friction loss, demand versus available supply, and reading a water-supply curve against a system demand point. If your hydraulics are rusty, this exam will find out.

Classification comes before calculation

Use group, construction type and hazard classification is only 9%, but it gates the 31%. You cannot check a density without first agreeing what hazard class the space is. Get NFPA 13 Chapter 5 solid before you touch the calculation chapters: it is cheap to learn and it unlocks the expensive part.

Materials is quietly worth 11%

Listed-and-approved questions feel like trivia until you see the weight. Eleven percent is more than fire pumps. NFPA 13's system components and hardware chapter earns real study time.

Where to start

Work the heaviest domain first and check yourself against the weighting, not against how interesting the material is. The published percentages are the closest thing to an answer key you get before exam day.

Our free 10-question practice test draws from the same weighted pool, so the mix you see is the mix the exam uses.
