On the 2023 NEC
Wyoming enforces the 2023 NEC, and ICC's Wyoming electrician exams test it. Study material written for earlier editions numbers these rules differently; every question here cites the 2023 section.

Frequently asked questions
How is the Wyoming Journeyman Electrician exam structured?+
ICC exam 385: 80 questions in 4 hours, open book, and you need 70%. It follows the national ICC journeyman outline; wiring methods (about 21 questions) and branch circuits and conductors (about 15) carry the most weight.
Which code edition is the exam on?+
The 2023 NEC. It is the edition Wyoming enforces, and ICC's Wyoming electrician exams reference it, along with Ugly's Electrical Reference. Older study material numbers several load-calculation rules differently.
Is it open book?+
Yes. You may use the 2023 NEC, Ugly's Electrical Reference (any edition) and, if you prefer, the hardcover NEC Handbook. ICC gives the exams at Pearson VUE test centers for $115, and you must wait 10 days after a failed attempt.
How do I renew, and what continuing education is required?+
Journeyman and master licenses run about three years. You need 16 hours of board-approved continuing education per license period, at least 8 of them on the NEC. There is a 45-day late window with a $50 fee; after that you must retest.
What do I need before I can sit the exam?+
8,000 hours (four years) of on-the-job training, with no more than 75% in any one of residential, commercial or industrial work, plus 576 classroom hours from a Department of Labor–approved apprenticeship. Electrical school can count for up to two years. A new journeyman license is $100.
Can I use a license from another state?+
Wyoming accepts journeyman licenses earned by exam (70% or better, held at least a year) from Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas and Utah, provided you meet its hours and schooling requirements.
