Texas Fire Extinguisher Licence (TFM-01 · 02 · 03)
Practice for the Texas fire extinguisher licence tests: TFM-01 Statutes & Rules, TFM-02 Type B portables and TFM-03 Type K kitchen systems. 50 questions each, closed book, 70% to pass. Questions are grounded in Texas Insurance Code Chapter 6001, 28 TAC Chapter 34 Subchapter E, NFPA 10 (2022) and NFPA 17A and 96 (2021). SFMO accepts the ICC Portable Fire Extinguisher Technician exam in place of TFM-02, and ICC Pre-Engineered Kitchen Fire Extinguishing Systems Technician in place of TFM-03.
About the Texas Fire Extinguisher Licence (Type B / Type K)
Granted by Texas Department of Insurance, State Fire Marshal's Office
The Type B licence (FEL-B) authorises installing and servicing portable fire extinguishers; it requires TFM-01 and TFM-02 (ICC/NAFED Portable Fire Extinguisher Technician can replace TFM-02). The Type K licence covers pre-engineered kitchen systems and requires TFM-03 plus an FEL-B or an apprentice permit held at least 6 months (ICC Pre-Engineered Kitchen Fire Extinguishing Systems Technician can replace TFM-03).
