On the 2023 NEC
Wyoming enforces the 2023 NEC, and ICC's Wyoming electrician exams test it. Study material written for earlier editions numbers these rules differently; every question here cites the 2023 section.

Frequently asked questions
How is the Wyoming Master Electrician exam structured?+
ICC exam 701: 100 questions in 5 hours, open book. Wyoming requires 75% on the master exam, higher than the 70% for journeymen. It follows the national ICC master outline, which weighs services, branch circuits, wiring methods and general knowledge most heavily.
Which code edition is the exam on?+
The 2023 NEC. It is the edition Wyoming enforces, and ICC's Wyoming electrician exams reference it, along with Ugly's Electrical Reference. Older study material numbers several load-calculation rules differently.
Is it open book?+
Yes. You may use the 2023 NEC, Ugly's Electrical Reference (any edition) and, if you prefer, the hardcover NEC Handbook. ICC gives the exams at Pearson VUE test centers for $115, and you must wait 10 days after a failed attempt.
How do I renew, and what continuing education is required?+
Journeyman and master licenses run about three years. You need 16 hours of board-approved continuing education per license period, at least 8 of them on the NEC. There is a 45-day late window with a $50 fee; after that you must retest.
What do I need before I can sit the exam?+
16,000 hours (eight years) of experience, 8,000 of them as a licensed journeyman, plus 576 classroom hours from an approved apprenticeship. A new master license is $200. An electrical contractor must employ a full-time master as its master of record.
Can I use a license from another state?+
Wyoming has master reciprocity with Idaho, South Dakota and Iowa only, for licenses earned by exam (75% or better) and held at least a year.
